The Final Countdown (Ch 12)

I lay silently with my men, Grendel suspects nothing haha. He "[seizes] up a sleeping man, tearing at him hungrily" (168). Thank god that's not me. I watched Grendel's tactics intently. I learned about his movements and strength while he ate the man. I can go into the fight with complete knowledge of how Grendel works and defeat him! I jump up and take action! You will be mine, Grendel! As I was going at Grendel, I realized I made a smart decision using only my hands, the men that used their weapons were thrown back. Blood started oozing all over the floor, I guess I'm that brutal. I could tell Grendel was losing his sanity and approaching the end, good.

He's so ugly looking, yuck!

He keeps pulling away, I don't know why? Be a man and toughen up, would ya? I throw him against the wall, what a baby. You know what? I wanted to assert my authority, so I made him sing, loud. It was funny until he started crying "Mama, Mama! I'm dying!" (173). How can a monster be so pathetic? I thought he was supposed to put up a fight. How could Hrothgar's men not defeat him in these 12 years, he's pretty simple to spook. Well, I finished up my deed. I tore off his arm all by myself. He fled and I was victorious, as expected.

It's all over for you Grendel.

New Land (Ch 11)

There's been commotion about some other place's meadhall called Herot. Since I'm awesome, I thought I should go over there and fix all their problems. I hear it's some monster named Grendel; what kind of name is that? He's been terrorizing that land for twelve years now, I hear. How have they not been able to defeat Grendel by now? That's pretty pathetic in my opinion. Oh well, guess I'll just get all my men ready and patch up old conflicts.  I load my men on the ship and a few days' sail later, I'm greeted by a poor man on the shore. When we arrived, "the Danes were not pleased" (159). I could understand that, because the monster has been mean.

Don't I look great?

Later that night I boasted at the meadhall with all the men around me, telling of my great victorious adventures. This total weirdo dared to talk back, claiming I'm a fake. He "predicted it will go even worse for [me] tonight" (161). I quickly shut him down, as I am literally the mightiest man on Earth.
I then called Unferth out again by revealing to everyone his deep dark secret- he killed his brother and did no heroic acts like me. Because of my actions, I'm clearly the greater guy and meant to fight Grendel, only me. We continued to party the rest of the night, doing our best to keep everyone lighthearted about the situation. I'm glad to see that everyone loves me, I don't blame them, I'm fixing their "insect" problem. Hell, I think the queen is even interested in me, she gave me a drink.
We're gonna have good night tonight with Grendel.
